The Chicago Illini of the Year Award, cosponsored by the University of Illinois Alumni Association (UIAA) and the Chicago Illini Club, was created in 1997 to recognize the accomplishments of Chicago-area graduates of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. UIAAAN is very excited to have Chong-Hwey as our guest blogger beginning in August 2015. She will contribute thoughts about Asian and Asian American books, movies or TV programs. Survey Results from March and some directions |
Survey return rate is 67% ( total 84 clickthroughs, 57 responses). Majority of the respondants are alumni from 1988 to 1999 (43.8%).More than a quarter (26.8%) of respondants were a part of AAA as undergraduates. Almost half of the respondants (45.6%) have heard of UIAAAN, learned about UIAAAN from our quarterly newsletter (43.4%) and from the Alumni Association ( 41.5%). After graduation, the top 3 challenges are Transition: Career & Professional Development, Networking: making new friends and staying in touch with old friends, and Personal Financial Sustainability. Featured Alumni:International Alumni Award |
Dr. Byung-Ho Chung received 2014 Madhuri and Jagdish N. Sheth International Alumni Award for Exceptional Achievement.
Dr. Chung, a native of South Korea, is being honored for his work in social activism and education reform extending throughout East Asia. The founder or co-founder of six civil social justice organizations, he has focused particularly on the relationship between North and South Korea, promoting multiculturalism and peace, as well as establishing organizations to care for refugees, many of whom are children. Featured Program: Alumni Panel Conversation |
The Alumni Panel Conversation is an online panel hosted by Business Career Services (BCS) for students. The purpose of the program is to encourage career and personal development conversations between business students and alumni. It allows business students to understand the potential obstacles of job-seeking through alumni’s personal experiences and to learn how to prepare themselves for greater opportunities after graduating. In the Spring 2015 semester, BCS hosted two panels and invited eight young alumni with international backgrounds to share their personal journeys.Learn more.

Featured Intern: Sining Wang |
Sining (Stephanie) Wang joined the U of I Asian American Association as alumni coordinator during the 2015 spring semester. By assisting the board members in following up with distinguished alumni and their U of I experiences, and updating newsletters and website information, Sining feels deeply proud of being a part of the Asian and Asian American community. She hopes that she can contribute to the Asian and Asian American community of the U of I by connecting more student leaders, alumni and organizations together, and by helping current students learn more about the community and participate in related events. |

The next meeting of the Board of Directors for UIAAAN is in Naperville, IL this coming Saturday. We will have an "open house"- style information session. We are currently in need of directors for the areas of Public Relations and Volunteers.
